The club enjoyed a wonderful weekend with fabulous weather and fabulous people.
We left the Grove Bar, Kilpedder at 11 am, meandering through country roads at a leisurely pace taking in the beautiful scenery that Co. Wicklow has to offer.
We stopped at The Meetings in Avoca for a short while.
The Meetings has a Craft Gallery stocked with the finest hand made Wicklow crafts, a Bar and Lounge, as well as Bed & Breakfast accommodation. Overlooking the celebrated Meeting of the Waters, the property enjoys panoramic views of the converging waters of the Avonbeg and Avonmore rivers, and of the surrounding countryside.
We then travelled on to Avondale House and Forest Park.
Avondale House, in Avondale, County Wicklow, Ireland, is the birthplace and home of Charles Stewart Parnell. It is set in the Avondale Forest Park.
Avondale House, where Irish forestry began. Enjoy forest park trails or take a leisurely stroll through the walled gardens. Explore the Coillte Pavilion and learn about the essential role forests play in all our futures, or just take some time out in the Seed Café. There’s something for everyone at Avondale.
Uncover the story of Avondale House, where Irish forestry began and where one of Ireland’s greatest statemen, Charles Stewart Parnell, was born. Enjoy forest park trails or take a leisurely stroll through the walled gardens. Explore the Coillte Pavilion and learn about the essential role forests play in all our futures, or just take some time out in the Seed Café. There’s something for everyone at Avondale.
It also has a Treetop walk and viewing tower.
The first of its kind in Ireland, the fully accessible Treetop Walk and Viewing Tower takes everyone to the very heart of the forest at Avondale, and beyond. Weave your way along the walkway exploring our trees, from top to bottom.
Rise up through our magnificent viewing tower to emerge high above the forest floor and enjoy panoramic views of Wicklow, before you whizz your way back to earth on the gigantic spiral slide, or take a more leisurely journey, down the gently sloping boardwalk.
After having lunch and enjoying a wonderful couple of hours at Avondale House and Forest Park we made our way back via Glenmalure to The Grove Bar, Kilpedder for presentation of prizes.
The Liam Kelly Memorial Cup was won by our Chairperson Mick Nolan with his 1927 Rolls Royce 20 and was presented to him by Liam's sister Eilis Crean.
The best pre war car was won by Thomas Morgan with his 1909 Ford Model T.
The best Post War car was won by Aiden O 'Toole with his 1965 Mk 2 Jaguar.
Congratulations to the winners.
We ended the day enjoying a dinner and dance in The Parkview Hotel.
The following day, Sunday we had our annual Poker run sponsored by Derek Behan.
We had a short drive taking in Delgany, the beautiful Big Sugar Loaf, Small Sugar Loaf, and beautiful sea views towards Greystones, returning to the Grove Bar Kilpedder where the winners were presented with their prizes.
1st. Prize was won by Michael Connolly
2nd. Prize was won by Ron Corry
3rd. Prize was won by Michael Nolan
Congratulations to all.
A big thanks to The Grove Bar Kilpedder, The Parkview Hotel and a special thanks to Avondale House and Forest Park for their wonderful hospitality.
Derek Behan for sponsoring The Poker Run.
Thanks to Patrick Cahill for the wonderful
photos taken on the day.
A special thanks to the outriders for keeping us all safe on the run.
The run wouldn't be the same without them.
A special thanks to all that turned out on the day, especially those who travelled from far and wide which made it the wonderful day that it was, and last of all a big thanks to the committee for all their hard work in organising the run. ... See MoreSee Less
